Become an MMCC Mediator

If you have completed an approved 40-hour mediator training course, for family or civil court mediators, and want to help resolve conflict in a positive way, MMCC is the place for you. Not only will you have the chance to mediate cases cases with potential clients that find your services through our organization, you also will have the chance to mediate cases with local agencies like the Berkeley County Family Court and the Charleston Police Department.   The cost to join is only $125 (or $100, if after July 1st), with an annual renewal rate of just $75.

To be included in the Roster of Mediators for the Mediation and Meeting Center of Charleston a person must 1. Either:
    A. Be certified as a Civil or Family Court Mediator by the South Carolina Board of Arbitrator and Mediator certification; or 
    B. Be an attorney, psychologist, master social worker, independent social worker, professional counselor, associate counselor, marital and family therapist, or physician specializing in psychiatry licensed to practice in South Carolina who has been licensed to practice in his or her profession in South Carolina or another state or the District of Columbia for at least three years and who has completed 40 hours of mediation training approved by the SC Board of Arbitrator and Mediator Certification or comparable to those programs approved by that Board; or
    C. Be an ordained minister who has been ordained for at least three years and who has completed 40 hours of mediation training approved by the SC Board of Arbitrator and Mediator Certification or comparable to those programs approved by that Board; or
    D. Be a mediator who has completed 40 hours of mediation training (a) approved by the SC Board of Arbitrator and Mediator Certification or (b) comparable to those programs approved by the SC Board of Arbitrator and Mediator Certification. 
2. Pay annual membership dues to the Charleston Mediation and Meeting Center: $100 for the first year, with renewal rates adjusted and provided to members annually
3. Agree to provide pro bono and reduced fee ($100/hr) mediation services (if choosing to be designated as a provider of these services on the MMCC website).
4. Be of good moral character.
5. Agree to attend continuing education in the area of ADR every calendar year.
6. Agree to abide by the South Carolina Rules of Professional Conduct (as pertain to Mediators), and the South Carolina Court-Annexed ADR Rules.
